The Paralegal Division of the State Bar of Texas offers continuing education for paralegals online. They also provide a statewide CLE calendar. Denton County Paralegal Association Membership Information


Classes of Membership

There are four classes of membership in the Denton County Paralegal Association. Please click on the link for the appropriate membership class to print a PDF application to be filled out and mailed to the address below.

(A) Active Membership: An individual eligible for Active Membership shall be someone employed, under the supervision of an attorney, as a paralegal or legal assistant who:

  • is a resident of Denton County, Texas, upon application; or
  • is currently employed in Denton County, Texas, upon application; and
  • has valid proof of completion of a full course of studies prescribed for training as a paralegal or legal assistant at an institutionally accredited college, university or other post-secondary school; or
  • has been previously employed as a paralegal or legal assistant for a minimum of three consecutive years; or
  • has been employed as a paralegal or legal assistant for six months immediately preceding application for membership.
(B) Associate Membership: An individual eligible for Associate Membership shall be an individual who:
  • has met the requirements of A(3) or A(4) above but is not employed as a paralegal or legal assistant or does not meet the requirements of A(1) or A(2) above;
  • is currently enrolled and actively participating in a post secondary Paralegal Education Program; or
  • meets the requirements of active membership but chooses to be listed as an associate member.
  • An Associate Member in good standing may fully participate in the functions of the Association, but shall not be eligible to vote; to hold any office; or, serve as chair of a committee.

(C) Field Associate Membership: An individual eligible for Field Associate Membership shall be a person who upon application has the following qualifications:
  • is currently employed in the legal community, but is not employed as a paralegal or legal assistant and does not meet the qualifications for Active Membership; and
  • is interested in participating in the DCPA as a field associate member and pledges to provide support for the Association, its members and the paralegal profession.
  • A Field Associate member in good standing may fully participate in the functions of the Association, but shall not be eligible to vote; to hold any office; or, serve as chair of a committee.
(D) Sustaining Membership: Sustaining membership may be presented to a professional organization, corporation, or individual who:
  • pledges and provides support for the Association, its members, and the paralegal profession;
  • A Sustaining Member in good standing may attend and participate in the functions of the Association, but shall not be eligible to vote; to hold any office; or, serve as chair of a committee.
